Congratulations to LAC's Karen Lyon

Karen C. Lyon, PhD, MBA, APRN, NEA, has been chosen as one of Louisiana’s Great 100 Nurses for the year 2015. She will be honored on October 14 at The Great 100 Nurses Celebration in Kenner, LA. The Great 100 Nurses Celebration is held yearly as a way to honor excellence in nursing and recognize the contributions of nurses. An anonymous panel of nurses chooses each year’s honorees based on their concern for humanity, contributions to the nursing profession and service as a mentor or role model for others.

Lyon is a member of LAC's Core Leadership Team. She currently serves as executive director at the Louisiana State Board of Nursing. Lyon has a nursing career that spans 40 years and includes 30 years in management positions and 20 years in executive leadership. Lyons’ previous position was associate dean for Nursing at Texas Woman’s University Nelda C. Stark College of Nursing. She also served as associate dean for operations at Samuel Merritt University School of Nursing in Oakland, CA. Lyon’s clinical expertise is in wound care, and she had active practices in El Paso and Houston, Texas, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, prior to relocating to Louisiana. She served on the national board of directors as treasurer of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists and on the National Advisory Board of the American Organization of Nurse Executives.

The Great 100 Nurses Foundation was founded in New Orleans, Louisiana twenty-nine years ago and since then has honored thousands of Nurses across Louisiana, North Carolina, Texas, and Oklahoma.
