Advancing the Dialogue on Race for Nursing: A New Era of Health Equity
In our continuous pursuit of equity and excellence in healthcare, the Louisiana Action Coalition (LAC) is excited to unveil the progress on our 2022 Health Equity Innovations Fund grant project, titled "Dialogue on Race for Nursing."
Introducing the Project
This groundbreaking initiative aims to develop a specialized curriculum based on the existing "Dialogue on Race Louisiana, Original Series." Through a series of open conversations within a six-session program, the Dialogue on Race Louisiana has enabled participants to engage in meaningful dialogues about race. The adaptation of this remarkable series into a nursing curriculum is not just novel; it's necessary.
A Bold Step Forward
On July 24th, a group of committed LAC supporters completed the Original Series, immersing themselves in the current format to become well-acquainted with the process and flow. This hands-on experience has empowered them to seamlessly translate the valuable lessons from the Original Series into a new paradigm – "Dialogue on Race for Nursing."
The week following the completion of the series, on July 31st, the supporters gathered for an intensive brainstorming planning meeting to begin crafting this nursing-specific curriculum. These individuals, with their rich experience and genuine passion, are uniquely positioned to make this curriculum both pertinent and transformative.
Why "Dialogue on Race for Nursing"?
The Dialogue on Race for Nursing initiative acknowledges that the healthcare field, like many others, is not immune to racial disparities. This curriculum aims to equip future and current nurses, doctors and healthcare leaders with the understanding, empathy, and skills needed to provide care that transcends racial and ethnic boundaries.
By basing this new curriculum on the proven Dialogue on Race Louisiana Original Series, we ensure that the content is not just theoretical but has been tested and honed through real-world dialogues.

The upcoming months will be vital as we finalize the curriculum, engage with healthcare institutions, and prepare for its implementation in organizations across Louisiana.
